Utility cooperatives meet the basic electric, telecommunications and water needs of their consumer member owners.
Electric Cooperatives:
There are two types of electric cooperatives: distribution cooperatives and generation and transmission (G&T) cooperatives. Distribution electric cooperatives serve end-users, such as residences and businesses, who make up their membership. Generation and transmission cooperatives typically sell wholesale power to distribution cooperatives and are cooperative federations owned by their member co-ops.
Telecommunications Cooperatives:
A member owned provider of local/long distance telephone services, internet access and TV services.
Water Cooperatives:
Water cooperatives are most often found in suburban and rural areas that are located too far from municipal water companies to receive service. They provide safe and reliable potable water to their members. In addition many provide wastewater services.
