Farmers Markets Support Local Economy

Shopping at farmers markets is one of the best ways to support farms, farmers and local economies.

American Farmland Trust holds a annual America’s Favorite Farmers Markets™ contest to raise national awareness about the importance of buying fresh food from local farms and saving the farmland where it’s grown. Market shoppers had the opportunity to vote for their “favorite” market through Aug. 31, 2011. Now the results are in and details are available.

Congratulations! to the top five markets in Indiana (in order):

  • Purple Porch Cooperative
  • Orange County HomeGrown Orleans
  • Granger Farmers Market
  • Bloomington Community Farmers Market
  • Downtown Terre Haute Farmers Market
