Addressing Housing Affordability Using Cooperatives

In a recent blog post, Jason Sibert posed some interesting ideas about boosting home ownership using cooperative housing.  He posed the question "What if we could create more forms of cooperative housing to make sure families have the opportunity to own a home and at the same time have a certain amount of mobility?"   One of his solutions was the creation of a Cooperative Housing Authority, with funding from Fannie Mae, that would buy up foreclosed houses and charge a monthly below market rate to a family. Another solution was the creation of a Federal Community Land Trust that could be, along with a CHA, another way to deal with affordable  housing shortages.
