
Colorado’s market mix of health insurers hasn’t changed much in years.A new entrant set to launch in full in January 2014 – the Colorado Health Insurance Cooperative – hopes to upend the status quo in more ways than one with its member-driven, nonprofit model.
Colorado HealthOP, the first statewide nonprofit health insurance cooperative, is breaking that dry spell with a model that challenges decades of for-profit assumptions about the healthcare industry. There are 24 cooperatives set to launch across the country. Including Colorado, 22 states will have one cooperative, and Oregon will have two.
